On their quests to be crowned Miss and Mister Luxembourg, candidates for the 2010 competition have been whisked away to the sunny Tunisian island of Djerba this week.

For the whole of this week they will be put through their paces in a packed and varied programme of leisure and educational activities as well as learning the ropes and how to present themselves

I have the “difficult” task of attending this week and living it alongside the candidates and reporting back to Station.lu and you on their progress.

As a reporter, alongside other Luxembourg press on location, one can’t help feeling that we are part of a “Big Brother” or “X Factor” TV show and although a lot of the planned events are fun, all the “competitors” will still be judged on their behaviour, reactions etc. One finds oneself subconsciously judging the beautiful girls and boys similar to these shows.  In fact for those that criticise the whole Miss or Mister World idea, isn’t this in fact exactly what it is?  The world’s biggest X Factor? (in relation to Miss World).  As these shows increase in their popularity, those that watch them (or those that pretend they don’t) should also be drawn to this prestigious event.

The first task candidates were confronted with after an impressive welcome at the hotel on Saturday, was a Tunisian cookery class. The traditional dish “Ojja” with prawns was their challenge and after a demonstration by the hotel chef the candidates competed against each other in teams to produce the best results!  The Mister Luxembourg team triumphed.

But its not all fun and games. Sunday saw the guys and gals working hard in catwalk and posture training as well as dancing and fitness sessions.  Luckily for me I only had to spectate!
