Make a note in your diaries for 31st Diekirch Cavalcade (Carnival/festival) that takes place on Sunday 14th February, when everyone puts on silly costumes and parades through the streets of Diekirch.

The start of the celebrations begin at 2:30pm and about 2000 people take part from the starting point on route de Gilsdorf, and the procession winds its way around Diekirch streets.

At the end of the event, a prize of 750 EUR will be given to the best group in the cavalcade that represents the history of the town, as this year Diekirch celebrates its 750th year of existence.

The first Cavalcade took place in 1870 in Diekirch, born under the slogan "Expedition to the land of gluttony."

For weeks the idea whispered secretly around the town, the idea being to hold a joyful occasion, but keep an element of surprise regarding exactly what will happen until the day itself.

When it came, the carnival cavalcade sped through the streets of Diekrch  and evoked a sensation throughout the country.  So much for the secret!

Since that day the Cavalcade has been held with a considerable dose of humour, original ideas etc.. The idea is to let your hair down and have a good time.

Every year the Cavalcade takes place but in 1991, along with other celebrations, it was cancelled due to the Gulf War.
