Konrad officially opened its doors on Tuesday 2nd of March, the premises is a hybrid between a clothes shop and a café, so you can relax with a drink in between shopping or just enjoy its yummy offerings.
The building on the rue du Nord has been transformed over several months by owner Ture Hedberg and has more than a slight resemblance to his former shop Nude, which was its previous incarnation.
Konrad has continued selling some of Nude's former brands, but now on the men's side there's a particular emphasis on good t-shirts and jeans, and for women the clothes are somewhat more quirky than at Nude.
The café, run by Paul Killeen, serves some excellent specialty coffees and teas, draught Simon Pils and Okult beer and some lovely organic wines.
The sandwiches are very tasty, simple and have excellent dressings. The homemade cakes, scones and pastries are challenging for some of the best I ever tasted. They are open for breakfast, salads and lunch. They also serve a continental breakfast, with homemade scones and croissants. Konrad café uses Knopes coffee, offering cappuccinos and French press, macchiato and lattes, espressos and hot chocolates. Their bread comes from the organic bakery Scott and the rest they make in-house. “We are proud to say that our ingredients are locally sourced, organic and free range where possible,” says Paul.
