World's oldest person dies
Maria Gomes Valentim, listed by the Guinness book of World Records as the world's oldest person, has passed away following multiple organ failure.
Mrs Valentim (pictured), a Brazilian national and resident, was 114 years and 347 days old when she died, and the title now passes back to American Besse Cooper, aged 114 years and 299 days.
Interestingly, Mrs. Cooper was the previous oldest person in the world until her Brazilian counterpart's birth certificate was verified and showed her to be 48 days older.
The late Mrs Valentim, who was born on July 9, 1896, put her longevity down to having bread with coffee every morning, eating fruit, occasionally enjoying milk with linseed oil, and keeping her nose out of the business of others.
