Doubts over Cattenom?

Dieter Majer, an expert from Saarland, and independent nuclear observer, has cast doubt on the legitimacy of stress tests being carried out on French and European nuclear installations. He fingered Cattenom in particular.

Speaking to the Saarbrücker Zeitung, Majer said that Cattenom, the nuclear power station on the doorstep of Luxembourg, should not necessarily be "granted any approval to continue operating" because of results emanating from the stress tests.

Majer, who was mandated by the regional government to oversee certain elements of the stress testing, added that Cattenom "does not match up to German law" when it comes to safety procedures, and that it does not meet all required technical and scientific criteria.
