Leisure: No Ice Wine this year

Warm weather means no sweet vines

Published on 28/12/2011 by Stephen Evans - Business Review / Stephen Lowe | Read 671 times.

The warm winter weather means there will be no ice wine harvest this year.

Picked when frozen, the iced grapes produce a highly coveted desert wine but the ambient temperature must be -7°C or lower, and is usually picked in the dead of night.

With there being no prospect of this happening, most wine growers have already harvested the high quality Rieslings which most suit this production.
