Chat: Bus drivers, and their use of phones
L'essentiel today released an article about the alarming number of bus drivers who flout driving regulations
Are you a driver that uses their mobile phone whilst driving?
Are you outraged by the thought of those in control of public transport doing the same?
A spokesman for the company Emile Weber, speaking to L'essentiel this week said: "The complaints we receive daily, concern only a few problems with phone use while driving."
The spokesperson goes onto say that these sort of matters are handled internally, usually resulting in a dressing down for the dirver in question.
But the safety aspect goes far beyond that.
"If one of our drivers is the subject of a complaint or are caught driving call, they will be summoned to their superiors. To our knowledge, no driver in the city of Luxembourg has never been fired for such behavior," said a spokesman for the capital.
"When a bus driver is caught on the phone while driving without hands-free, we record the crime but we do not distinguish in the statistics with those recorded for a motorist, said a spokesman the police. Both incur a warning accused of 74 euros," said a police representative.
Romain Daubenfeld, general secretary of the OGBL responsible for transport, however views things differently. According to l'essentiel's report, he says: "We receive daily complaints from users about it. It's a real problem because on the one hand it is against the law, and secondly it is dangerous. We will discuss this point in the collective agreement that we are negotiating. It will not be the main point, but it's an important point to discuss. "
Bus drivers have a responsiibity for their passengers and ergo the company is responsible for its employees.
Have you seen a driver flout the regulations, driving a bus or otherwise?
What would you like seen done about this?
