Traffic: City centre must cut CO2 emissions
2015 is set as target for cutting output
The Boulevard Royal and Avenue de la Liberté are well-known hotspots for traffic desnity in the capital and the City will have to take steps to meet the goals of reducing CO2 emissions by 2015.
The high vehicle count is nothing new, and nor is the probem with city-centre parking, or the lack thereof, but concerns are raised over the levels of pollution these numbers contribute toward.
In order to comply with the European directive in 2015 imposing a reduction in CO2 emissions, the City must act and act fast.
Cleaner buses are already tabled and the tram system is considered greener - but work for that is not scheduled to begin until 2014, leaving a year to complete the works...highly unlikely.
What penalty would be imposed if the city/government fails to reach these targets is yet to be disclosed.
