A children's book for a good cause
Camille Verdier and Madeleine Arnould are students attending the International School of Luxembourg and are completing their last year of school. They are both participants of the school's awareness group for Médecins Sans Frontières.
Camille was determined to do something unique for a fundraiser event for Médecins Sans Frontières, and was inspired to write a children's story and to sell it with all profits being donated to them. Madeleine was enthusiastic to help out, and shared her artistic talent to illustrate the book. Together, they created a unique bilingual children's book (French-English) and are promoting it throughout Luxembourg.
The story is based on a real disease called “la maladie de la Lune” in French, which was directly translated into “Moon's disease” in English. In reality, the disease is called “Xeroderma pigmentosum” and prevents affected patients from being in contact with ultraviolet (UV) light.
The book is called “Jeremy’s Drawing” or “Le dessin de Jérémy”. The book is in English and French and recounts the story of Jeremy, Kiara’s friend, who is sick. He has Moon’s disease and is therefore not allowed to leave his room. Kiara decides to go and collect objects from the outside world to make a drawing for Jeremy, so he too can enjoy the outside world, dream and escape from his illness.
One book costs 8 euros and all proceeds will be donated to Médecins Sans Frontières.
