6 doctors and 6 nurses in court
January 24, 2012: Medical staff from CHL (Luxembourg-City) on trial over death of injured child
Tuesday sees the start of a court case against 6 doctors and 6 nurses from Luxembourg-City's CHL hospital, that are charged with involuntary manslaughter of a 3 year-old boy. They are being blamed for the accidental death of the child in 2005. On that day, the boy was placed in a coma at the CHL after he had been in a serious accident. The accused are said to have given the victim Diprivan, medication that contains the active substance Propofan, which can be dangerous to a small child's metabolism. In this particular case, the 3 year-old reacted badly to the drug and died shortly afterwards.
The trial is expected to last seven weeks. During this time, three experts and 21 witnesses will be heard in court.
