Irish stand of the International Bazaar presents cheque for €20,000
Irish ambassador to Luxembourg Diarmuid O'Leary hosted a reception at his new residence in Strassen on Thursday to acknowledge the fine contribution made by the many volunteers to the success of the Irish Stand at the 2011 International Bazaar.
Committee members of the Irish stand of the International Bazaar together with the many volunteers welcomed Mme Marie-Hélène Ehrke-Harf, President of the International Bazaar Committee, who was more than happy to attend the occasion. She was presented with a cheque for €20.000 euros, the proceeds of the Irish Stand at the 2011 International Bazaar, which will be distributed among last year's chosen charities.
The 68 stalls present at the International Bazaar 2011 managed to raise a grand total of €500.000, a significant higher sum than in 2010. When asked which stall raised the most money, Mme Marie-Hélène Ehrke-Harf admitted that is was Germany (but hinted that this was partly due to the fact that they have three stalls at the bazaar).
The Irish stand served over 2.000 cups of Irish coffee which helped contribute towards the impressive €20.000. As usual, they were also selling Irish products including smoked salmon, soda bread, wooly blankets and clothing.
Mme Marie-Hélène Ehrke-Harf went on to thank the Irish stand for their fantastic amount of work and the huge amount of money they managed to raise. She then added: “There would be no International Bazaar without the stands, and the Irish stand makes a very big contribution to the Bazaar each year. It's one of the oldest and most popular stands. Without that money raised, we wouldn't be able to support all our different charities.”
