Travel card e-go to open up to Greater Region?
Do you travel round Luxembour using your little green e-go card? Well maybe soon you can use it beyond Grand-Duchy's borders in the Greater Region.
The little magnetic green card that let's you travel all around Luxembourg on different forms of transport, known as “e-go” and replaces the need for tickets, may soon be opened up to the Greater Region allowing for its use across the borders too.
No date has been set, but talks are due to take place soon to discuss the e-go's expansion, explained Ben Fayot, member of the Chambre des députés, after a meeting with Transport Minister Claude Wiseler.
However, this does not seem to be “plain sailing” (or bus riding) as the niggling issue of budget seems to get in the way. Felix Braz, member of the Green Party stated that “other results could be achieved with less money” and “the galloping budget is not under control” referring to the e-go budget of 17 million euros.
Of course, agreements are also needed with French, German and Belgian transport systems for the use of e-go, a subject that appears not to have been discussed as of yet.
Fayot went on to explain that some initial objectives of the e-go card were not achievable and even 1 or 2 ideas were scrapped.
Discussions will go on but it does not look as though you can use your little green card for a shopping trip to Trier, Arlon or Metz just yet.
