How long does it take you to get to work?
According to a recent report, it takes on average 37 minutes for people in Luxembourg to get to work, the highest average in Europe.
For Luxembourg residents and Belgians it takes on average 37 minutes to get to the office, and 44% of Belgians and Luxembourgers have already thought about changing jobs because of travel time. This is according to a survey released by Regus BusinessTracker.
On average, for Luxembourg, a worker takes just over 30 minutes to get to the office.
11,000 people were surveyed in 13 different countries across Europe, Luxembourg and Belgium being the countries with the highest average travel times of 37 minutes.
Next on the list were Germans, then the French, with respective averages of 33 and 31 minutes. Eduard Schaepman, CEO of Regus Benelux stated: "Thanks to modern technology, no matter where you are you can normally work. However, Belgians and Luxembourgers showed an average daily time spent travelling to and from work at 1 hour 15 minutes. There is an urgent need to radically change our way of working. "
Over the past two years, nearly one worker in five has stated that they have already thought about leaving their job because of long travel time to get there. In Luxembourg, the percentage reaches 15% of respondents, and the longer the journey time, the more the percentage increases: for those who spend more than an hour a day in their cars or who travel by public transport to get to the office, 39% of them say they have already thought about finding another job. For Luxembourg this percentage reaches 44%.
Eduard Schaepman, CEO of Regus Benelux stated "There are always a lot of Belgians and Luxembourgers who travel daily in major cities to be in the office from for 9h-17h. There are also many French, Germans and Belgians who travel to Luxembourg City for work every day. But thanks to email, Internet, mobile phones, PDAs and wireless terminals, no matter where you are it is the result that counts. What this survey shows is an urgent need to overhaul the way we work and all traffic flows of work-related activities, otherwise, we could risk seeing a lot of companies lose talented employees only due to reasons related to the travel time to their office.
