Update with your comments: Should the Luxembourg church and state separate?
The Luxembourg association for the separation of church and state have raised their voices once again calling for debate on church and state separation in light of recent world events.
Luxembourg needs to be totally independent and the church remains in its place. That’s what the organisation claims the "Bündnis fir d'Trennung vu Kierch a Staat” claims.
The organisation for the separation of church and state returns to the forefront once again, with a subject extremely delicate for the church.
Rebounding from the revelations of paedophile priests in Ireland and Germany, the organisation calls on political parties and the Chamber of Deputies to hold more debates to find solutions for alternative finances and to teach students more neutral values.
The organisation believes that debates are all the more necessary regarding the position of the church in relation to topics such as euthanasia, abortion or homosexuality that they consider obsolete.
But should the church and state separate in Luxembourg? What do you think? Does religion have a role to play in the government or not? What do you think?

Dear editor,
In my opinion, I think the power and influence of religious organizations should strictly be kept out of political affairs everywhere in the world.
Considering the Luxembourg case, it would make special sense to keep the Catholic Church separated from politics, since nowadays, it only manages to represent the interests of part of its citizens. The Luxembourg population has come to be made up of so many different ethnical and religious backgrounds, therefore, decisions, that have an influence on our day-in day-out life and the country's future should not be influenced by any religious group.
I'd like to point out though, that I do believe a certain spirituality is a necessity for every human's well-being. As a result of that, every government or leading institution- being made up of human individuals - needs its members to believe in someone or something, in order to take reasonable decisions and function in a mentally healthy and humane way. However, this should happen on a private level, and thus have its influence in the variety of beliefs and convictions that decision makers represent.
A German and Luxembourgish citizen.

At the risk of upsetting a great many people. "Yes" the church has no place directing states in this modern world, How many people in Luxembourg attend a Catholic Church regularly (weddings, communion etc not included). I suspect a small number so why should the even smaller number of church elders dictate the laws the masses must live by.
