Late yesterday afternoon, residents in the the south of Luxembourg had to live without electricity or gas for a short period. This was due to an explosion at an electricity sub station in Schifflange just before 5pm.

The explosion of a transformer in Schifflange provoked interruptions at several other stations including Biff, Lamadelaine, Paafewee, Woiwer, Sanem, Galvalange, Riedgen, Dudelange, Kayl and Trefilarbed.

A total of 11 communes in the South were without electricity and therefore Bettembourg, Rumelange, Dudelange, Tetange and Schifflange were affected.

Power was restored just after 5pm. In a statement, the distributor has apologised to their customers.
