Liu Zhong, pet owner explained, "He is the real boss, the number one in my family. Eating, drinking, playing, he is the centre of everything, and our lives revolve around him."

Open for just a few months, dozens of customers have already bought pre-paid service cards which can cost upwards of 815 EUR.

Sun Ruowen, owner of Ruowen Pet Spa stated "I think people are spending more money these days, and more and more people have dogs, so I decided to open a top end pet store which offers luxury services such as spa and massage, and try to set a new standard for the pet beauty industry."

Owners who want complete makeovers for their pets like this one are rare, but nothing is too much for this parlour, if money is not an issue.

"Owners usually tell us how they want their dog styled. And our motto is 'If you can dream it, we can do it.' There is no styling we haven't been able to achieve." explained Sun Ruowen.

As pet ownership steadily increases across the country, a wave of animal beauty salons are vying for new ways to attract clients, and brighten up pets' lives.

And for now, it seems there is nothing like adding a touch of colour to make these pampered pooches feel like top dog.
