Saturday, August 14, the Luxembourg City Tourist Office organises the festival of street arts Street a(rt)nimation in the Luxembourg City centre. This free festival under the banner of “fantasy, wonder and laughter” attracts each summer thousands of enthusiastic spectators and converts the public areas into an open-air stage for all. The Place d'Armes, Place Guillaume II and the pedestrian areas will become venues for all kinds of street performances.


This year, 45 international artists are on tour in Luxembourg with 77 free performances. The festival Streeta(rt)nimation has become a reference for street artists and is open to a huge variety of genres. The idea is that the festival is a stage for a wide spectrum of outdoor theatre and street performances: moving and stationary acts, traditional acts, puppet theatre, comedy skits, experimental theatre, etc. There will also with acrobatic performances,  “poetic and surrealist” performances (that's a quote from the Tourist Office, not sure what it entails), mimes, stilt walkers, and so on. Pretty much something for all tastes.

Closing concert grand at 22:15 Place Guillaume II

As a grand closing ceremony, the British company Dream Engine will present productions magical "Heliosphere" and "Diamond" from 10:15pm in Place Guillaume II. Heliosphere is a show where music and movement intertwine. Surreal music together with a huge helium balloon will rise gradually above the crowd. A woman suspended from the balloon, will perform what can only be described as floating ballet.

At the same time, the "Diamond" show will take place. Music and coloured lights around an 11 metre high diamond sculpture that the aerial acrobats perform around.

Dream Engine has been wooing crowds since 1995 and is sure to be a hit in Luxembourg.

The festival Streeta(rt)nimation was born when Luxembourg was the European city of culture in 1995 and has continued to grow and evolve ever since. Sixteen years later, the festival is still going strong.
