Ancient ghost festival thrives in modern Singapore (video)
Do you believe in ghosts? certainly many citizens of Singapore do as the ancient traditional "Hungry Ghost Festival" is currently in full swing.
During the Hungry Ghost Festival, which lasts from August 10 to September 7 this year and is regarded by many Chinese as an inauspicious month, "getais" (meaning "singing stages" in Mandarin) like these are held around the region to commemorate the festival and wash away evil spirits.
As the dry-ice machine emitted a gust of mist, two female singers in glittering, form-fitting dresses belted out a line from an old Hokkien song atop a makeshift stage.
