Mandy Minella through to second round at Flushing Meadows

Following qualifying in the Grand Slam tournament, Mandy Minella pushes to a career best.

After negotiating the tricky qualifying rounds, the Luxembourgish sensation, Mandy Minella, has created a stir in the first round of the U.S. Open yesterday dominating Slovenian Polona Hercog, in straight sets (6-4, 7-5).

While this is her first time competing in the Grand Slam tournament, Minella ranked 185th in the WTA rankings, won her progress to the second round by vanquishing Hercog, ranked 47th in the world .

She finished the match with a reasonable ratio 57% of first serves and 75 service points won against 67 to her opponent.

Millena will face Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova (ranked 34) on Wednesday.
